Water Polo

Water polo for high school players in Georgia? Yes indeed! The Lakeside Viking Water Polo team was first formed in 2011, and we are now into our 4th season. Water polo has both co-ed and girls teams. The Lakeside Vikings Girls team won the State Championship for the 2013 season! This club is open to young men and women grades 8-12 who live in the general Lakeside community. Water polo is a fun and exciting sport.

The Georgia High School Water Polo Association (GHSWPA) currently has 14 teams in the co-ed division, and 5 teams in the girls division. The season runs from August through the mid-October. Water polo is great conditioning for swim team too!

The Lakeside Water Polo Head Coach Andy Neff was a competitive swimmer at The University of Alabama where he was both Academic All American and All Conference SEC. Andy started playing water polo in high school where he was multiple MVP and held several state records in Ohio. Andy has been playing with the Dynamo Masters water polo team for the past 5 years, and he has coached the LHS water polo team for the past 3 years. Andy is assisted by several other young professionals from UGA, Georgia Tech and Emory who play and teach water polo.

For the 2014/2015 season Lakeside has three teams with over 30 players. We are always looking for new players to join the club! If you are interested in learning more about water polo, the club or want to come out and play, contact Don Wikle ([email protected])
